Functional earthenware pottery with a whimsical
natural theme and spirited, playful nature.
Handcrafted by Martha Hoddinott
Exploring new ideas & materials!
For more than 30 years, I have enjoyed creating pottery using rich red earthenware clay, exploring the warmth, character, and traditional beauty that low-fire pottery brings. Over the past year, I decided it was time for a new creative adventure and began exploring the world of stoneware pottery.
Working with stoneware has opened up an entirely new palette of possibilities for me. Unlike earthenware, stoneware is a mid-fire clay that produces pieces that are stronger, more durable, and wonderful for everyday use. I’ve been having so much fun experimenting with different clay bodies, glazes, colors, textures, and firing techniques — each kiln opening brings new surprises and inspiration.
While I still love the earthy charm of earthenware, I’m excited to share this new collection of stoneware pottery with you. I hope you’ll stop by and explore my newest work!
Handmade in Wayne, Maine
A Lakeside Studio Pottery is a small pottery located on the eastern shore of Androscoggin Lake in the lovely idyllic village of Wayne, Maine. My gallery and studio spaces are located in a home-like setting right next door–a very inspirational lakefront place to work!
“Martha’s pottery is admired and collected by people throughout New England as well as the rest of the East coast. Each piece is unique. Although most of her whimsical face mugs and ‘wine snob’ goblets each bear different expressions, you will be able to find one to identify with. A Lakeside Studio Pottery is well worth visiting: online or in person.”
“Martha’s pottery is not only beautifully crafted but visually inspiring and good for the soul. It’s impossible not to smile while sipping coffee out of a face mug sporting a wide, playful grin.”
